Having previously served for 15 years as an Assistant Athletic Director and collegiate Head men’s lacrosse Coach, Carbery is eager to return to college athletics and impact student-athletes academic and athletic careers.

“Mike brings with him a lot of experiences in the NCAA Division III compliance, student services and lacrosse realm that will immediately allow him to step in and fill the roles nicely,” said Czarnecki. “I am confident that he will continue to improve the student-athlete experience here at Hilbert for not only his lacrosse student-athletes but for the student-athlete body as a whole.”

Carbery will manage all student-athlete eligibility matters as well as oversee the Athletic Academic Monitoring Program (AAMP) which was developed seven years ago for at-risk student-athletes at Hilbert. This program has helped the Hawks raise the student-athletes cumulative grade point average since its inception. For the 13th semester in a row, Hilbert’s student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 cumulative GPA and 10 of the 13 programs finished the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.0 or higher.

“I am excited about returning to college athletics for the opportunity to help mold student-athletes as they work towards their academic and athletic goals,” said Carbery. “I am the ultimate team player and believe that learning, fun and winning cannot only coexist, but actually go hand-in-hand.”

Most recently, Carbery spent five years as the Director of the Buffalo Lacrosse Academy (BLA) where he oversaw all lacrosse operations. The BLA was created in 2005 to serve as a bridge between local athletes and college programs to showcase men’s lacrosse talent in Western New York.

Previously, Carbery served as an assistant athletic director and head men’s lacrosse coach at Medaille College from 1999 until September 2014. As an administrator, Carbery wore almost every hat in the Mavericks’ athletic department. His spent a majority of his time as the Sports Information Director but also served as the NCAA Compliance Officer and ran the department’s Academic Monitoring and Support program in addition to serving as an Event and Equipment Manager.

Carbery was Medaille’s first head coach having organized the men’s lacrosse program in their first season of competition in 2000. He was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Coach of the Year in 2014 and coached a two-time NEAC Player of the Year/Offensive Player of the Year as well as 20+ players who earned NEAC All-Conference honors.
